Odometer and Tripmeter not working

This is for my 97 f150 2wd ext cab. i know it is most likely the gear in the cluster and a lot of folks will say to replace the whole cluster. My truck only has about 58k miles and I would hate to put on a used cluster showing 200k miles.

i was wondering if anyone has bought a used cluster and just swapped out the gears for the odometer/tripmeter.

I'm not sure if it applies to 97-03 F150's but I know for sure the 99 had the issue. There is a "how to fix your intermittent odometer" post somewhere.. It was common. Or do you not have the digital display?

97 and 98 had mechanical odometers.

It is your worm gears. I've taken one apart and unless you are a watch repairman, there is no way of pulling one of those apart and putting it back together. Since its so old, I'm doubting you will sell it, so what do you care how many miles it reads?
