How long can I let my power steering whine?
I've got the power steering whine, changed the dirty fluid today with no change in the whine, didn't really expect any, Just wondering if the whine can go on for a long time without pump failure. Tracka96
Expect some whine just after power steering service till all the air gets out of the system. Turn the steering wheel left to right (it should get louder when doing this) to purge some of the air. If it continues after a day or two... get a new p/s pump... purge the system again... and be done with it

I thought my 2003 had a PS pump whine, but it was a bad bearing in the alternator.
Admittedly, the Ford PS pumps are prone to whine, but in my case a new alternator quieted the truck down nicely.

Mine was a little noisy a few years back. I pulled the line and flushed it out good (don't let it go dry). - Work in some Amsoil, run a little good stuff thru the system , reconnect the line then top it off w/Amsoil Trans fluid or something as good as. Mine hasn't made a peep since. Doesn't have to be Amsoil, - just something as good.
That's the best you can do for it. If it's not to far gone, that will quiet it down for yuh.
