Where does your temp gauge sit?
Where does your temp gauge sit?
Heat in my 01' isn't as good as I think it could be, it's hot but with some rpm it gets really hot.
The coolant when I bought it was pretty brown, had it flushed but the temp gauge reads about 1/4 up the scale, Where does everyone elses gauge sit?
Going to replace the t-stat but I've also seen some of the posts about water pump fins too.

Figured it should be in the middle too.
Going to replace the pump and t-stat. Looking at parts source they list a 7 vane and an 8 vane pump with a ring around the back side of the fins.
Most pics I saw looked like the 7 vane pump anyone try the bigger pump? It's a Fenco pump BTW

If you are reading your temps from the computer, then those, I do believe, are the cylinder head temps.. They will run a bit higher then at the T-stat or the heater hose inlet where I take mine from for my Autometer gauges..
Also, where your needle shows on the stock gauge is no real indicator how 'hot' your coolant is. I know mine will get to it's 'normal' spot when my Autometer gauge shows around 160*. It's also in the same spot when my Autometer is at 210* when I'm pulling a long grade in the summer time.
Normally, my every day temp on the gauge is just over the 180* mark. Towing, it'll run around 195* and pulling the grades, or running in stop and go traffic, it'll go to 210*.

its more of an idiot gauge than anything else (yes like an idiot light), more to let you know that either you're cold, warm, or you might want to get some air flow before limp mode sets.
IMO, it woulda been better to have one more like the chev's Ive seen have, where its an actual temp gauge and moderately accurate.

Sure, but that scale can be anywhere from 160* to at least over 210* before there is any change in it.. To date, I've never seen mine move any farther up the scale, and I'd say the stock one shows less then half way or only about 1/3 of the gauge. Not really much of an indicator at all in my mind..

140* is the bottom. 175* is the middle of the temp sticker thingy, and 180-210 is in the middle. 230 it begins to move and from the middle to the red is 230-260.
