Adding Cruise to 1998

Does anyone know what's required? There are kits on eBay but it says for 1999 and I believe it has to do with PATS. If I found a Junkyard special, what all would I need to pull?

I bought/installed an aftermarket one like this for my '04 Heritage:

Uses the VSS and stays right on speed setting.

Price seems a bit high but I guess you gotta pay to play. Thanks

I have done this to a few fords that have not had cruise installed from the factory. When a lot of these vehicles rolled of the assembly line it was cheaper to just use one wiring harness so it may be plug and play for you too. Unplug your battery and remove the air bag and see if there is another plug behind the air bag on the steering wheel. If there is you will likely have the wiring harness installed on your truck that i already talked about. Look for the plug on the drivers side fender that the servo motor plugs into for cruise control. Then look under your dash for 1 or 2 more open ended plugs one above the brake and one above the clutch pedal (if applicable). If all these are there. ALL you will need is

- Steering wheel with cruise buttons
- Servo motor with bracket, or make your own bracket
- The disconnect switches for the brake AND clutch (if applicable)

Yes it's that easy, easily done in less than hour for OEM cruise control, not that aftermarket crap which is brutal to diagnose and repair.

I had a '94 XL that didn't have cruise control. It was an option on the XL.

Looking forward to the update. I've wanted to add cruise to mine as well but with my custom airbox taking up the room on the driver's inner fender where the OEM cruise fits I was lookining for an aftermarket one I could mount in a different spot.

well, seeing how the servo cable is a housed cable design, you could mount the servo anywhere. just gotta make the wiring work.

Good to know, I was not sure if it had to be mounted in the same spot.

Thanks.
I found a 2-wire plug above the vac booster. Capped with rubber plug. 1 bracket unconnected above the brake pedal next to OBDII connector. I haven't removed the steering wheel yet. Will do this weekend.

QUESTION 1: Mine is 97 V6 RWD Reg cab. What years can I remove CC from?

The brake switch plugs to the plug above the brake.
The servo plugs to the 2-wire plug.
The CC switches connect to the plug behind the steering wheel.

QUESTION 2: Do I need to replace the clock spring?

QUESTION 3: Is there a cable connected to the throttle body?
