Raptor's HID Retrofit

Here's mine:

FX-R, 55W Morimoto's with 4300K.

Initial start-up:

After 10 second warm-up:

I'm really impressed at how well built these ballasts are. Really heavy and sturdy, and thick silicon insulation and tight connections.

One headlight almost done, other one getting pre-cut

And the dremel set I got. Gotta love Harbor Freight

Now if only Lowe's was open...

I cannot wait for these bulbs to burn in properly. A slight tinge of yellow, then they'll burn off to 5000K towards their 150hr lifetime. But crazy bright nonetheless.

Nighttime pics:

I did a horrible job of holding the camera steady for this shot. This shows the beam shooting skyward to a low ceiling of 3,000 ft clouds above.

Adjusted white-balance:

Off-adjusted white balance:

Off to Lowe's in the morning

Get on it, derek! One headlight complete:

I've drained the dremel's battery about 6 times now. Another three charges should finish the other one and take less time now that I have a feel for it

I will as soon as I'm back at my apartment.

But I was a little messy with removing the lenses, so I have to figure out how to get some of the silicone off the black parts....if it doesn't come off, gonna repaint. =|

Remember, you will have to trim the bottom of the shroud as Thomas did

I don't keep up much with HID's but they are slowly catching my attention more and more. As my head lights suck really. This looks great. Maybe would look a bit better in a different set of housings. Or maybe would have looked better (not sure about the light) a little offset in the housing and not so centered. Reminds me of an eyeball right now. But looks good. What does a setup like this run cost wise? And where to get them.
Gotta love Harbor Freight for tools like this, although I'm a bit weary of their battery operated things. How do you secure that into the housing? Once they are secure and re-installed, are you able to use the factory adjustments to adjust them or..

The lights were $320 from theretrofitsource.com. The headlights were $150 from eBay. Dremel & tools about $50. If you look closely, you will see 4 holes on each of the corners. I will drill holes and bolt it down and then seal it with silicone. And yes. I will loosely attach them to the buckets with the 4 bolts, and then put them on the truck sans the lens. I will adjust everything and make sure the cutoff is fine and then take them off the truck, tighten down everything, and seal them up.
