Use any name brand Mercon V fluid in the tranny and any name brand coolant except Dexcool - but do a complete flush if you are changing types of coolant. Just make sure the coolant meets Ford specs.

buy the premium gold motorcraft coolant from the dealership, its only like 14 bucks or so. Recommended every 5y 100k

and i agree with GLC on the Merc V or better in the trans. recommended every 60k IIRC

I'm running plain old standard Autozone green coolant. I don't expect it to last 5 years or 100k.

The trans filter does not get changed with a trans flush due to the pan not being removed. I had my trans flushed when I bought it last year, but just recently had all the under-carriage fluids changed out and replaced with synthetics

I use Valvoline Mercon V. Around here O'Reilys had the best price. You'll need a whole case if you drain the torque converter. An 01 should have the TC drain plug. The gasket on the trans pan is reusable, you don't need to replace it unless it is damaged.

Put 9 quarts in the trans, start the motor and shift through the gears to fill the TC and valve body, shut it off and add the last few bottles. If you skip this step the trans will overfill and you'll be wondering how trans fluid can make this big of a mess. Don't ask how I know this.
