Are you talking about the fan shroud? I wouldnt take it off. Part of the cooling system.

X2. Would also be a real good safety concern.

Why are you wanting to take/leave the shroud off anyways?

It is a flat peice that covers the gap between the Rad support header panel and fan shroud. Has a few stickers on it. I took it off when I did my Retro heads haven't got around to putting it back on.

I believe that is just a trim piece, not part of the shroud. But why not just put it back on. Its held by like 8 plastic trim screws and looks like crap without it on. Plus thats what I lean on the most when doing work on my truck. Would suck if it wasnt there.

Not a problem in the winter but in summer you may see an issue if you do any towing or hard driving in very hot weather and A/C may get poor in stop and go traffic.

Ok.... Yes, that is not the shroud. I leave mine off in the winter, as my solenoid for my plow is mounted up there, and it wont sit right. I put it back on in the summer, so I do not know if it has any effect on the cooling system.

In summary, I wouldnt stress out and go buy new trim screws this second, but I would put it back on simply because it goes there, and looks good there.

To polish this off a bit more, cooling system performance normally has nothing to do with fuel mileage except what changes in engine bay temps are detected by the IAC sensor.
But that changes constantly and tends to move with outside temps as the truck moves
The motor has a thermstat that regulates the engine temperature with in some 10°.
Only possible effect that changes to a stock shroud assembly would have is the ability of the fan to draw air through the radiator core.
The fan clutch would detect this and change sleightly the clutch on/off time and alter the open closes times of the thermostat. Change in average engine fan load would be undectable for average load.
But the engine still sees it's temp regulated the same.
If an over sized radiator is installed,
it changes the dynamics of operation the same way or it would not be doing anything benifical, if it did not.
Good luck.

No it is purely for cosmetics. It wont hurt your MPGs or overheat your engine. You don't need the plastic christmas-tree clips, either. Place it where it goes and the spare tire rod will hold it in place
