Thanks for helping a rookie out. 1999 scab. It's the black cylinder shaped part located in the rear wheel well. What is it and what does it do? You may be able to tell from the pic that it appears to be disconnected at the top.

looks like a air bag helper spring that has broken off and lost its supply line

 

Sure looks that way, should be able to fix up the air issue at any hardware or automotive store.
