Is it worth it

I found the truck I want, but not sure if its worth it.

97 f150 x-cab, push button 4x4, third door, immaculate on inside, normal scratches on outside, couple small areas of rust, nothing major. 222,410 miles and its moonlight blue. I drove it today and it drives good shifts good no noises. Just inspected, in which the brakes, rotors, manifold were done, tires have decent tread, but the heater only blows on high.

Asking price is $4400. I offered 3k and they wouldnt budge. With that milage is it really worth paying 4400? This truck is exactly what I wanted including color, but I just don't know anything about these trucks. Thanks

My fiance just totalled our 93 f150 x-cab 4x4, we just put a motor in the month before and it only had 20k on it. Really not wanting to do another motor

imo, I would say its not worth it. I just bought a 98 xcab, 4x4, immaculate interior, few scratches on the outside, and a little rust on the inside of the door and on the tailgate, with only 115,000 miles on it for 4,700. 4,400 is a lot for that many miles.

I normally wouldn't consider anything with such high milage, but I'm in a bind. We have 2 of us working at diff times and places and only 1 car right now. I can't depend on others cuz we live so far in the boonies. I have been looking all week and since its getting so cold and flurrying some, trucks are just going up in price.

It sux cuz when I described the truck I wanted, this was it...exactly!

first off, what motor does this truck have?

$4,400 is WAY too much for a truck with my mileage. my truck has a hair over 157k miles, and it's valued at just over $4200 in excellent condition.

no matter how nice the interior is and how mechanically sound it may seem, 222k is A LOT of miles.

Your offer stands reasonably. You need to go check out what KBB says it's worth, and take it back to him. If he doesn't budge on his price, tell him good luck finding someone dumb enough to pay that much for that truck.

Agreeded, thats too high for that milage
I paid $5000 for my 1997 xlt with 5.4, push button 4x4, after market rims and and new 285's, brush guard and running boards, and this was back when my truck had 127,000 miles on it back in 2005

As a personal rule of thumb, I'd never buy anything over 150K miles. 220K is just stupid high. Why buy a truck if something is going to break next week?

My truck just turned 215K. In the past year, I've spent ~$3,500 in maintenance ALONE

if it were me, i would take it to a good mechanic and get him to check it over. If everything checks out good then maybe offer him 3500 cash. Now if there is stuff wrong with it take a written estimate to the seller and show it to him and see if he will go down to your 3,000 offer or maybe even lower. You may be able to get another 100,000 miles out of it and it may blow the day after you get it. Ya never know.

Also when dealing with the seller when you ask them if they will take 3,000 they probaly think that it will take some time for you to get the money. Ive had good luck telling people hey i have 3000 cash right now in my pocket, will you take it? Most of them will go ahead and say deal. Money talks BS walks.

It also depends on where you live as to how much the truck is worth! I just ran the KBB on it and this is what it came up with here in TX

Excellent $4,150
Good $3,800
Fair $3,225

And there is absolutely no way it can be graded higher than "fair" when it has rust and scratches. It would have to be fully reconditioned and detailed to get "excellent".

No problem. Hopefully you can find a truck soon, and come back to join the fellowship here!

I payed $3500 for mine last july and its a 1998 4x4 ext cab when i bought it it had 210,000km dont what that is miles wise but i know its not too high. the only problem with mine was a little scratch on the right rear corner.

Good job on holding your ground and good luck with finding a new one i wish you the best.
