Starting proplem

Hey all! I used the search and found a similar topic, but with m7 97 xlt 5.4 my truck will start but shut right off again. When I hold the gas peddle down it will stay running, but as soon as I let go it dies.
My truck did this last week. It sat for two days....same with today, it sat in the driveway for two days.
Last week, i went back out the next morning and it started right up.
A local guy guy said to look at the fuel filter...
I am asking all here for opinions on what to look at.
Thanks in advance,
From, Uncany-sitting in the driveway- F150

Sounds like a dirty IAC, wouldnt take but 30 mins to pull it and clean it. Common problem for intermittent cold start issues. There are some write ups around here that walk you right through it.

When mine did that, it was the rubber elbow on the back of the intake for the pcv collapsing. It was available in the HELP! section at Pep Boys. I ended up just replacing all my old, nasty vacuum lines while I was under there.
A fuel filter's only a few dollars, though, so you might as well snap a new one in anyway.
