4x4 not engaging

So last year i got my 4x4 working and apparently when i put it in 4 high the actuator doesnt work...so my uncles brother got it going and left the actuator engaged so everytime i put it in 4 hi it would work...

Well a month or 2 ago i noticed my lines had cracked/broke so i went to autozone and got some 3 ft vacuum lines and some rubber connectors as the lines werent quite long enough..

Well i got everything hooked back up and what not and now all the sudden my 4x4 does not work at all....I'm not too sure what to check either...

If it makes a difference my cruise control does not work anymore and hasn't in a while.

I am no expert on 4x4 but have always been told that you can burn out a front differential by leaving the hub engaged. With the actuator disconnected (AND all 4 wheels of the ground) does the actuator move when you try to engage that 4x4?
As far as the cruise control, Ford had a recall because brake fluid would drip on the switch, cause a short, & start a fire. The fix was to install a fusible link that would cut out to avoid starting a fire. If yours has already had the fix, the link may have worked. A replacement is only about $15 and is a quick unplug and plug fix.

No the actuator did not move....He had said he thought it was some sensor on the transfer case?

My understanding is that the light only comes on if the transfer case is engaging. That might be a place to start checking. If it is coming on in 4x4L but not 4x4H I would check there.

Hmmm what could cause it to come on in 4 low but not hi though? Weird lol....I know the light works as it comes on upon startup...I went and got a vacuum tester today to see if im even getting vacuum.

It's a 1997 with the shifter on the floor for the 4x4....would a bad actuator cause the light not to come on? I just priced an actuator and they're $112..

Is it possible though, that if i am getting vacuum, that the actuator is bad?....
