Questions on Combustion In Cooling System & Camshafts???

I have a 1998 F-150 with a 4.6, auto. It has 112,000 miles. I just found out that I have combustion leaking into the cooling system which mean either a cracked head or blown head gasket. I am going to have the heads pulled off and have the heads checked for cracks. If they are ok then I will have a vavle job done and have them resurfaced. Being that it is a sohc motor I was wondering about changing camshafts to a rv grind (more torque) seince I tow a boat and sometimes a flatbed trailer. Will the camshaft up grade work with my trucks ecu? If it will be compatible what's a good camshaft (2) to install to increase hp & torque & a good place to purchase them? Thanks. Chief Mike.

you might as well step up to PI heads and rebuild your bottom end since the stock rods suck

So you saw bubbles in the expansion tank or degas bottle? Your referring to combustion gases correct ? lol. Or did you use a test bottle w/blue solution.

These work for stock heads and computer. They are actually worth $ 500-$550 new in the real world, less used.

^^^^^^^Exactly that Comp Cam. It's the best out there for folks wanting a little more grunt when towing and not have to fool with a programmer or chip. It will have a slight choppy idle, kinda like an old 3/4 cam, if yer old enough to know what that is. It will be the cam that goes in my 4.6 when I break it down next year. If you buy it, make sure to use their cam break-in lube or expect cam failure.

Hey Guys, Thanks for all the quick replies & advice. Are these motors roller or flat tappet? I know if it is a flat tappet I need to replace the lifters, what about if a roller? Jbrew, I used the clear test bottle with the blue solution it turned yellow (bummer) & thanks for the video clips (cool). onelowf, Thanks for the info on the camshaft, thats what I am looking for. Labnerd, Yes I am old enough to know what a 3/4 cam is & the song China Grove by the Doobie Brothers. (who) for all the young people. To the good old days! Thanks. Chief Mike
