Stock aluminum hoods & Steel hoods... replacing

I have a 2003 F150, with an aluminum hood.
It has started to bubble up/corrode under the front lip in a few spots and under the hood. I was quoted $350 to fix the problem, then spray w/ clear coat from a body shop. Also, I was offered a stock white hood from a 1998 F150 for $100, craigslist.
**Easy choice cost wise**
I'm here to ask...
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF STOCK HOOD SUPPORTS/SHOCKS WERE DIFFERENT
FOR TRUCKS WITH STEEL HOODS THAN ONE WITH ALUMINUM HOODS?
Aluminum is much lighter, so supports would not need to be as strong to lift these hoods as they would for a steel hood. How about simply replacing the hood shocks/supports? Betting man these wouldn't push my total investment over $350, so maybe craigslist and a new set of shocks is the way to go?
Go to NAPA or FORD?
Anyone with knowledge, opinions, comments, a tip, something to help out?

If I do pick up the hood, what's a safe way to transport it home? I have a 6.5 foot bed w/ plastic liner. How strong are these hoods to transport on their side? Maybe Strap it down with the front lip of the hood against the plastic bump / wheel well, and the back of the hood hanging over the side of bed?
Thanks.

I don't know if this will help or not, but LMC truck sells BOTH steel and aluminum hoods. I was actually thinking of getting an aluminum one if I came into some extra money as my hood needs to be repainted. I would bet they attach the same. Maybe call LMC truck and ask----DirtySCREW

I can't answer to the differences in hoods. But as far as transporting a hood safely, you could build an a-frame support out of some 2x4's, kinda like how glass and granite companies transport their materials. Then wrap the hood up really good with some blankets and strap it all down really good.

The hoods have different struts. I had new ones for my steel hood. And just make sure to wrap the corners of the hood real good with something and it will be fine in the bed. That is how I transprted mine.
