Hey guys, i live in west virginia we have salty winters yes, and i hate it yes lol. Anyway i just picked up my 2000 F150 SCAB 6in lift (ithink i asked on another thread for oppionions on what lift my truck has ..see lifted f150s for pics) anyway its got brand new 35in bfg MT's on brand new wheels , the truck has 104k miles, and has a diablo programmer, k&n full intake, true duals. Truck runs great with the 5.4L. Only problem i can see on the truck is it has some bubble rust on the side behind the wheel in front of the rear bumper. Also I noticed at the bottom of ALL 4 doors it looks to have been fixed from rust before(looks like some bondo or filler and paint) my question is , is that bad? The underneath has been undercoated but has some rust, I know almost all cars around here have some rust. I just want ur guys oppinions on this because i plan on keeping this truck along time and don't want it to fall apart on me!

 

cmon now, i heard these trucks are notorious for rusting like this, anyone have this problem or know alot about body work? like i said the all 4doors have already been worked on at the very bottom.....??

 

Mine is from the rust belt with alot of surface rust underneath, but only a little on the bottom of the 3rd door I need to fix, I'd try to stop it as soon as possible because it's only going to get worse

 

yes both of mine have the rust on the bottom inner side of the doors. best to try and fix it before it begins to bubble on the outside

 

The doors on these trucks are known to rust on the bottom. There's that lip on the bottom inside of the door where all the salt, dirt, etc gets trapped if it isn't cleaned out all the time. Look up a product called viscotene...you spray it in those tight areas and it forms a kind of barrier that repels water and prevents corrosion

If the doors have been fixed correctly, probably wouldn't hurt to throw some wax on those lips

 

Ford put out a TSB on that, - they even have one on bubbled paint lol.

 

i had to have one of my rear doors repaired.. they cut out the cancer and put a piece of metal on then i had them treat all the other doors and had no problems a year and a half later my body shop told my to spray wd40 into those little weep holes every couple of months and that will stop it in its tracks.. this is notorious on alot of the ford trucks due to poor designs with the weather stripping under the door

 

mine hasn't been fixed right...i think its just filler or bondo in there which means its basically a time bomb until it comes back correct? how much do u guys think it would cost to put new metal in there? or should i just fix it again once it comes back out the cheap way?

 

the only rust i have is the rockers. They are horible. Some on the bottom lip of the doors, but thats fixable. My truck will have to have the rockers cut out on both sides and replaced.

mine has some on the very bottom of the rockers as well...i just got this truck and am realizing quick i need like 2 grand in body work..... here in west virginia we get alot of salt the bottom of the truck is very very corroded, but the rockers and bottom of all 4 doors are whats taking the worst beating, like i said before previous owner bondo'd the bottom of all 4 doors which means it will come back, the the rockers are just starting.......dang..this makes me miss my chevy..

 

I did recently notice some bubbling in the paint on my driver side lower panel\wheel well, just in front of the rear bumper and above that little plastic trim piece. I also have some rust on the inside lower lip of my scab doors. It's not too bad and hasn't gotten really any worse in a few years now. At least not that I can notice. I used to get up set about it, but I realize metal will rust and I haven't really done anything to take care of it or prevent it. I do wax my truck once a year and try to keep it washed. I really used to get PO'd about how my painted bumpers would get chips in them and then rust spots. However, for an 8-9 year old truck, mine looks damn good. Especially when I compare it to like years of a Dodge or Chevy truck.

 

Been there, done that. Well worth the effort to know it will last for the life of the truck, instead of a half a$$ed patch job with bondo.
Probably have about $500 tied up into mine. That includes the panels, a 110v MIG welder,body saw, various new grinding wheels and sanding disks, rust stopper and primer and paint. Took about 8-10 hrs per side, and I had NO prior experience doing something like this. Just some basic welding skills, very basic with a MIG.

 

i actually had this done twice the first time they used bonda and said it was done .. not knowing any better is was happy with it until 6 months later when it came back so i went somewhere else and they did it right by putting a new piece on there all together .. your better of doing it right once it will save you money rather than doing it again in 6 months

 

how much was this if u don't mind me asking? also how much work did they do exactly? like what did they fix

 

well ive had a few things done there before so they did it as cheap as he could and it came to 600. What they did was cut out the rust on the pass rear door and put a piece of metal on there. then on the other doors they grided any minor rust down then sealed everything up, rust proofed everything and then repainted all the silver on all doors..
