remote start?

wanting to order a remote start for my truck before it gets too much colder. Was wondering if there were any links on here for install. Also if anyone knows if I will need any bypass module or spare keys made for it to work. I have a 2000 F150 with the 5.4. Thanks for any help in advance.

i just got one installed in my truck about a month ago and i love it. a couple things though: if you have a key with a chip in it you're gonna have to have another one made its about $50 at walmart. also if you have a key with a chip in it you'll have to buy an overide module which the first place i called said it would cost $100 just for that then another $400 for installation, NOT including the kit. so i found another place by accident that charged me $150 for the kit and $100 for the labor and they said the module would be $50 but they dropped that charge so i only paid $250 (not including the extra key) but the second was definitely a steal compared to the first. anyways only took a couple hours, its worth it.

Definately worth it in the winter time. You will need the bypass to get around the PATS and a matching programed key. If you do it yourself avoid using scotch-lock connectors at the ignition harness. Here's a wiring chart and foot notes....

Enjoy!

if your key has a chip in it that means that your truck wont start without that key. if you have a key that opens your door but doent have the chip then your truck wont turnover.

It'll crank over but not start.

....click on that link I posted above, it tells you the series bypass needed. It's a 791 which is universal. You place your matched spare key inside it and wrap the key sense wire around the ignition switch.

Hit Travis up at www.kcautosound.com

He's running a sale on a remote starter with the bypass, installation instructions and all for $175 plus shipping. I've bought a couple of them for family members and installed them. Over the years I've purchased tons of equipment from him.

Checked out the link. My body is willing to install (had his own electronics business for awhile) and told me he has had the best luck with vipers. I have owned a couple previous vechicles with the vipers with zero issues. So prob going to go that route. Headin to ebay next to see if they have any bypass kits on there.

I did mad research on this yesterday and will probably go with Viper. I also like the idea of going with the pre-wire kit from KCautosound, but I haven't decided yet, still doing research to see what works the best with my stock alarm on my 2001.

My installer turned me on to the brand Avital. He said they are made by same company that makes Viper. Can get one with a 1 mile radius off ebay for $50, bypass cost $20, spare key was $15, and $100 to put it on. Can also get a second remote for $14. So for under $200 installed I was pretty excited.

FYI guys...there is no need to lose a key for a remote start install. Granted it is a tried and true method, however, units such as the PKALL can be programmed to function as a key without leaving one in the truck.

I just had a Viper SmartStart put into my 2006. Not sure about the 2000 models, but I needed to buy a PATS override device.

The SmartStart is by far the best mod i've made so far. Can start my truck, lock the doors, etc from anywhere my phone has data signal, which is pretty much everywhere.
