so on my last long trip to the coast a few weeks ago i was getting about 17-18 on the highway. where as thats pretty good, the cost of gas and a lot of city driving has prompted me to get my 2.3l Mustang running cars been parked for a few years, and thought i had a blown head gasket. but it fired right up, no smoke, no water in oil, nothing. so going to pick up a T5 and the rest i need to swap over to a 5spd and she will be my DD for awhile

I can't decide on if I need to get new o2 sensors or what. 2001 4.6L 4x4 with 229k miles i do a mix of both hwy and city driving and i calculate about 16-18mpg with "spirited" driving and a combination of hauling items weighing up to 1,000lbs. As far as i know, they are the original's.

Great idea

Here ya go, run mango juice instead of gasoline. The extra vitamins will wake it up and make it peppy.

Well I can tell you from MY experience that replacing the O2s did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for my gas mileage and only emptied my wallet some. So, it's your money...do with as you please. But my o2s had 140K on them and agin, no different results with the new ones. And yes, they were Motorcraft if anyone is wondering-------DirtySCREW

Considering your tires and lift, that's dang good MPGs brother! I'd be happy with that too if I had all your stuff. I'm STOCK except for air intake & exhaust and can't get that!!!---DirtySCREW

16 to 18 MPG with spirited mixed driving and haling is not bad at all.

I only get around 17MPG in my 2000 Grand-Marquis with the 4.6 in it.

I've started keeping track of mileage since November of last year. My city commute involves 12-18 stop lights and I never go over 45 for more than 3 minutes unless I'm WOT accelerating. The majority of my time driving is spent sitting at red lights. I have three 87 octane tunes, this doesn't separate between them.

My average is as follows:
Pure City driving: 12.7 Average mpg, MIN: 11, MAX: 14.1, I usually see mid 13s when I fill.
Mixed driving: 14.1 Avg., MIN: 13.4, MAX: 15.9, I don't do much of this kind of driving and usually consists of 40-60% Pure City driving
Highway driving: 15.9 Avg., MIN: 13.8, MAX: 17.9, majority of the driving was spent towing and speeds that are over the optimum efficiency range. May also include up to 10% city driving.

coobies, your MPG's seem right in line for a 4x4 truck. i wouldnt worry about it.

since we are complaining about gas mileage, i get 12-13

My '98 4.6 2x4 (perfectly maintained/tuned) once got 19mpg in optimal freeway conditions. If you are doing 16 - 18mpg in combined driving, count your lucky stars.

My '03 5.4 4x4 that I drive 'spiritedly' I don't even bother with checking mpg.
