'99 F-150 and '69 FE 390??
'99 F-150 and '69 FE 390??
I have a '99 F150 4x4 with a blown 5.4L V8. I also have a good running 390 out of a '69 F150 Camper Special (may possibly be a 428).
Unfortunately the '69 is 2wd so I won't be able to use the 4 speed. However, I'd like to mate the 390 to my 4R70W in my '99. Motor mounts would be relatively easy to manufacture if they're not available. However, I'm not sure about the flywheel/torque converter and the bellhousing.
Are there any conversion kits available and if not, what will be needed to do this conversion?
So far I can think of a few things that will need to be changed: flywheel, bellhousing, motor mounts, ignition, fuel pressure (can't decide if I want to inject it or keep the carb), and ECU programming to control the transmission.
Have I missed anything? Has anyone done this before??

Driving your 99 around with a carburated 390 is going to cost you big bucks at the pump. These trucks are FAR heavier than the old ones.....
Today trucks are so far different from the old ones that it would turn out to be a hot rod project from start to finish.
Not only would you have to use the old transmission, the dash would have to be fully removed and manuel or electric gages used because nothing would be resuable.
I understand you wanting to use a 390; they was a good an powerfull motor.
I once had a 76 F250 with the 390 4 barrel engine and auto trans and it would just fly.
So much so that it would have run rings around todays motors for power.
Good luck.
