Painting the frame

I just got my truck back from getting the transmission rebuilt and am already working on it again. I saw that other topic where the guy painted his frame and that looked fantastic. So today I started to do that to mine. At first I was using steel wool and a metal brush but it was taking a long time. So I went to the local walmart and picket up a wire brush drill bit and it is fantastic, I would highly recommend getting one if you are going to do this.

Im going to use matte black rustoleum unless somebody can tell me a better product to use. Another question is should I paint the exhaust pipes and muffler?

Now for some pictures of what I've done today.

Before:

After: (sorry the picture is dark)

This is only a few hours into the first step of getting the rust off.

Maybe that was my truck you saw??

That is the paint I used on mine, and NO!!!!!! I would absolutely NOT paint exhaust. Unless you use a high temp paint, but I would not reccommend it. I used to do it on my snowmobiles and even with high temp it would still melt off pretty easily...

Its is a bit late to mention this.
I too did this to a truck...but was concerned that a rattle can would soon come off...(especially in the mid west winters and salt )

SO I went down to a local body shop that had good reputation doing a-lot of muscle cars and chatted with them as to what to use, that would stay.

they suggested without hesitation....POR 15 http://www.por15.com/
and use a brush...it is sprayable. but for the average individual brush work better.

Yes it is pricy....not sure the price of the stuff you used or how long it will last???

Not say that what was done by you folks doesn't look good....it does, very nice in fact.
Just thought I pass along what I learned.

Looks good, but...

I can't believe you have the OE shocks still on there. They can't at this age still be doing anything except hanging there. Replace them and you will be amazed.

Sorry for not posting the finished pictures, its been a crazy week but It looks just like how ej6464 looks. My truck's frame is pretty solid, there wasn't any major rust or anything on it. It was just that thin top layer. If I had more money to use the por15 I would have used that buy im a college student and poor I know the shocks are bad and they are next on the list. Any suggestion on affordable brands?

If you can't afford something like Bilsteins, go with something like the Monroe Gas Magnum. Biggest nightmare you are going to have changing them is going to be the top mount, especially at thee rear. Start now with penetrating oil.

I put Monroe Sensatrack on mine. World of change. Affordable too, I was going to go with the load leveling Monroes, but decided against it

Just had sensatrac's installed 2 weeks ago. I'm sure mine were stock with 125K on them. Sure made things feel much better to get the new ones on there.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll have to do some homework on the shocks and what not but I'll be installing new ones in a week or two hopefully.
