Tires and wheels fitment
Tires and wheels fitment
Hi all. I have a 2002 F150 Supercrew 4x4. I am looking to upgrade the tires and wheels. I am going to install a 2 inch Daystart Leveling kit and want to know all the details pertaining to wheel and tire size. My initial impulse is to buy 16x10 rims and 285/75/16 tires. My questions are: 1) Is this a good combination, 2) will they fit, 3) is there any backspace or offsett issues I should know about or concern myself with, 4) what sort of shocks are recommended, and 5) is there any detrimental effects of the leveling kit? Also, anyone with this setup, please post pics. Thanx.

First of all, you don't need a leveling kit (and I don't think Daystar makes one for your truck). Your front ride height is adjustable by the preload on your torsion bars. Just crank up the torsion bars enough to level the truck and get an alignment. Increasing the preload will make the initial portion of the front suspension's travel slightly stiffer. Some people love this, some hate it so you will have to judge for yourself.
You can easily fit 33's on a 10 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing (which is pretty much standard for our trucks) but you will have to trim some plastic off the front bumper's lower valance for clearance. I ran the same combo you are looking at when I first purchased my truck. I have pics in my gallary.
As for shocks, just about anything is better than the OEM shocks.
