getting a core engine is this a good idea/price

I went to a junk yard today to look for an f150 engine to do the 5.4 swap however condition was a non issue since I want to rebuild the engine with forged parts, so here is the thing when I went to the junk yard to ask for an engine the guy there told me he did not have anything at the time however he would be getting a core back in about a week and it would be complete with everything except the wire harness and the upper intake, so when I asked him how much he told me $200. Does this seem like a good deal and also what should I look for when I go to look at the engine?

WellI wouldn't since it obviusly has had an issue other wise the orginally owner wouldn't be putting a new one in. I would think the biggest thing to look for would be a cracked block though with what you are going to do.

I kind of figured all I needed to do was look the block over to see if it was still good, the heads, well if the valves are messed up or something I will just rebuild them since I am going to put cams in anyways, and it is going to get a rebuild from the ground up, but I am probably going to try and talk them into giving me 2 weeks or so to strip the engine down and have the block checked out, and also the reason I want to go for this engine is that all the local junkyards that have the engine are charging me 800 bucks for the engine and I cant do that if I am going to sink a grand in parts in there anyways

as long as the block isn't cracked $200 isn't a bad deal

I agree, but I would be askin' why it was replaced... just for a little more info. You can't get a pair of heads for $200, so not a bad deal
