The chances of those two being wrong(especially when combined in forces) are minimal at best.

Could be different for your 01, but when my EGR went out on me at the beginning of last year my truck ran HORRIBLE. My truck would sputter down the highway because it was running so lean. I cant imagine what it would be like not having it on the truck at all.

I know for sure you can get the EGR tuned out. You would have to buy some kind of EGR delete kit, and I am not sure who has them. I know MKMcustoms makes them for diesels, so they might have them.. idk? You will have to have some kind of programmable tuner, that have a custom tune(with EGR delete) saved onto this programmer/tuner. Don't ask me what kind you would need.. gryphon? Xcal? Idk.

I can tell you however, that the EGR delete wont deliver any performance anything. I assume you already know this due to your car experience and I am just mentioning for others who happen to look at this thread wondering about EGR deletes. EGRs help keep the temp of your cumbustion chamber down. Now this is important for good reason, detonation. By removing the EGR your cylinder temp could go up. Depending on how radical your combo is you could start having detonation problems. I would suggest running 91 octane or better and in some cases 1 step colder plugs.

Brad
EGR doesnt hurt anything. Its necessary to reduce NoX emissions. If it hurt anything, then you would see a performance increase when removed.

There really isn't a need to do this, -it won't enhance performance and can (as Bluegrass points out) hurt economy.
Oh and here is your link

A little food for thought. If this has already been said, then it's being said again lol. A properly working EGR system will actually improve your fuel economy in comparison to the same engine without an EGR system. The EGR system improves the engines efficiency by reducing pumping losses and the reduction in combustion temperatures, resulting in a more efficient burn rate. By reducing the combustion temperatures, a more aggressive timing curve may be used as well, to improve performance. If the EGR system is shut down, the PCM uses a retarded timing curve to eliminate pinging caused by the higher combustion temperatures.

EGR systems got a bad reputation when they were first rolled out in the early 1970's because they were only controlled by ported manifold vacuum. These systems were rapidly phased out for more controlled systems.

If you are going to purchase an A/M EGR elimination kit, RJM does have a good reputation for their products. b2 found the link

First off everything that has been said seems very acurite.

I'm deleting the EGR on both my trucks, and with that being said my big truck, never threw a code or ran rough when the Egr went out. It threw 14 codes to everything else on my junk though

And on my Harley the 2 hoses that come off the tube arent even on there going to the EGR (don't know if that should throw a code or not)and I don't have a code thrown, But both of these trucks will have them turned off by a Tuner in the very near future.

The one on the Harley did come on but I erased the code and it never popped back up, but when I went to get inspected it was saying incomplete or unreadyness, whatever

And OP if you new the ? to your answer why ask, just take it off if theres no code/ or performance decrease.

Respectfully, in reply #30, it was stated that no engine platform ever gets a true breath of fresh air due to EGR.
This is not a correct statement.
The following are reasons why;
Both engines platforms or any others "do not use EGR full time", but only under light engine loading within an rpm and road speed range as determined by the program and application version.
At applications of throttle angles above about 7/8th calling for power, the EGR routine is exited or inhibited in the program as well as below the low end of the range toward idle and low rpm in lower gears.
This has been the overall FI operating design since 1985 and has not been changed over the years.
Further support for this operating routine by exampling a gas engine routine is as follows;
In a gas engine, the EGR routine is usually entered in third or OD at some speed above about 45 mph and min rpm.
The TPS is monitored by time interval and indicated throttle angle to make a logic decision to call the EGR routine up in program.
If the TPS position changes to a large opening and/or by quickness or "rate of change", the EGR routine is exited in favor of full power without exhaust gas contamination.
At the same time, fuel and ignition timeing is altered to allow these kinds of extreme A/F changes to stay out of timing and drivabilitie issues that would accompany the EGR operation, if no changes were made.
This can be expanded upon is need be.
It works somewhat in the same manner on a Diesel except for differences in operating principles between the two..
.
Further, in extension, a faulty coil with shorted turns will cause missfire during EGR operation from the exterme lean mixtures, then clear as the EGR routine is exited when throtle power is called, proving that the EGR is not in full time operation and a faulty coil exists on one or more cylinders causing a skip or miss on a temp basis..
Normnally, those who want to delete are not awhere that the delete has no addtional performance potential above about 7/8 throttle besides losing some measure of extra fuel mileage due to the fuel cutback and advanced timing during EGR operation.
If the system is operating fault free, it is transprent to drivabilty and power, hence no gain in it's alteration.
Argue if you must but these are the facts and can be verified using other references..

^^^ Thats talking over my head, or maybe i'm just having to read fast here at work?

The main reason I'm deleting mine is to clean up the engine bay and make it easier to change spark plugs.

I understand theres no performance added, But I still feel like something is being left on the table having hot air recirculating into the intake track?

Yea yea, I've done 20 mpg , just once . Going thru Flat Ohio. Filled her back up some where around Pittsburgh. I started out in Hell Michigan, drove straight thru to Harrisburg PA. 8 or 9 hrs if I recall.

I'll never forget that, -didn't believe it , I kept rechecking my Math every 5 minutes or so lol.

Thing is, I got just over half that going thru PA / Destination, then heading back. But shoot, if you weren't going thru the mountains, you climbing them lol. I like PA, runnin the Pike

Who cares about miles per gallon! Get a car.

How many smiles per gallon you get? Thats the better question.

I guess, just thought the whole point of this thread was deleting an EGR not how good a gas milage you get in a 2 wheel drive truck!

Sir...All that is a lie...It has to be cause your trucks (and mine) aren't running rough or getting bad mileage...

Now LOGAN.... you threw a fit for someone (supposedly) calling you a liar. And you just did it outright. What's up with that???
