What should i do???
What should i do???
Ok i have been avoiding this for some time, but i think it is about time to do something.
Last August I made the deal to trade my ranger for the f150 I am currently driving and the new truck had factory exhuast. This lasted for about a week and I took it to have straight pipes put on. The guy at the shop said that my manifold studs were in pretty sorry shape and would need replacing. Well, about a month or so after that (maybe longer idk) i started noticing a slight tick at start up untill the engine warmed up. Fast forward to now and that symptom has not gone away or really gotten worse. i do know that at least on my pasenger side one of the bolts that holds the pipe comming off the back of the manifold (at the flange) is gone and the whole thing looks iffy.
I believe that this leak is the majority of what im hearing and what is throwing my p0171 code (not sure just a guess) but im sure my studs arent helping anything. i want to get the leak fixed before i start chasing other problems so that i know if this is or isnt my issue.
Anywhoo.... I just got off of the phone with the local dealer ship and they said worst case (all studs are boned) im gonna be out around 1300 bucks. and that is just new studs and labor. I know that this may vary some depending on how bad it is, but then figure in new gaskets and possibly manifolds and who knows what else (probably wouldnt hurt to put in some new O2's) i will probably be looking at about 1500-2000 bucks i would guess.
I also asked how much (labor) to put in new heads and they said 2000.
I may be able to find and build up a set of PI heads and intake and get the girlfriends uncle to install for much less then that, but i dont think i want to go to all the trouble really, and i dont really know how much this would cost.
So my question is what should i do? ponie up for the stud change or something else? i think this is the only option that really makes sense. of course im going to ask around at a few local shops, but im not sure id trust any of them any farther than i can throw em....
