need suggestions for 97xlt....

Hi guys,
I just bought a 1997 F150 standard cab with the short bed. It is totally stock and need some simple, inexpensive ideas. Its two wheel drive so lifting and huge tires would not be practical. I was thinking exhaust system and intake system. Its the 4.6 V8. Any ideas for some good systems. Also is there any interior things that could be done? And I also want to take off the molding on the side. Any ideas how? Thanks

I got a 2wd and lifted it and so have a bunch of others on this site. Do gotta mod for your intake. It costs like $8. Cheap exhaust is a Dynomax Bullet. Look up migdaddys videos to see a 3" and you can find plently of others with 2.5" which is the stock exhaust size. They are like $40. Interior is all up to you. Check out the thread Let's See Your Crazy Interior for some ideas. One thing is painting your dash pieces. Another is led swap for the dome and map lights. Good luck and can't wait to see what you do with it

Thanks Justin. How do you do that 8$ intake mod? Is jut the muffler enough or should I get a cat back system?

Just go to a muffler shop and have them custom bend you a system.

Its in the technical article section. Look up gotts mod. Its easy and it just involves a piece of 3" pvc. It goes really quick if you have an angle grinder. For exhaust its all about what you want. Catback of course will cost more. Migdaddy only has the mufller with stock cats and it sounds really good

Just get a blow dryer and heat up the molding and it will peel right off. Then use some something to get the tape off. You could also get some lightning headlight and some taillight for it. Acetone your badges and trim your radio antenna. Get a billet grille off of eBay or look in craigslist for some cheap parts.

I've also heard fishing line is effective in removing the door molding; use it as a saw and cut the glue.

I ran just a y pipe in my old 4.6 to dials out the rear with no muffler. Sounded pretty good and was cheap.

Post up a picture of your truck and a budget to work with.

You could also nightshade your tails and 3rd brakelight if you wanted to black them put or make them darker red if you don't wanna go completely black. Hmm what else... You could tint your windows. There's a lot you can do. What is your budget?
Str8t Six is right on with the lightning heads. They make the front end look so much better

My budget us probably around 750$ at the max. I only paid 2grand for the truck. So some stuff cost more than the truck is worth. I like the idea off the black tail light covers. The grill also sounds pretty good. I'll get some pics of the truck up tommorrow.

Sounds good. Nightshade is only like $10 a can. You can pick up a bullet grill for like $40 on ebay if you just want one that goes over the stock grill. Exhaust shouldn't be too bad if you have a shop custom bend it like Str8t Six suggested. You can do everything else suggested for less than $50. Removing door moldings is free and looks great

That means your pics are too large. Resize them to 800x600 and they will load. There are free resizing sites on the net.
