Yea i've always got good fuel mileage of my truck, would it be possible to get the same with a newer body style 2wd 5.4 3v?
You would be rolling the dice. Maybe - maybe not. You would be inheriting possible spark plug and cam phaser issues, and fuel injector issues on an 05. If it were me, I wouldn't trade up unless you were going to get a 09 or newer - or a late 08 with the redesigned heads. The 03 is probably the most reliable year of any 97+ F-150.

Thanks for that info, i started thinking and i called my brother in law that owns a 06 and hes put 50,000 miles on it and it has been a good truck but he says his gas mileage is crap. Its a 4x4 with the 20 inch wheels and he does live in fort worth so there is always hard accelerating etc. He get around 12-14mpg. His friend owns a 07 4x4 and he gets 11mpg but hes got 35inch tires and a 6 inch lift. I have no need for 4x4 so i know the 2wd will get better mileage but i dont see them getting as good as my 03. I dont have the extra cash to get a 09 or 10 so if i do get another truck it will have to be probaly a 04-06.
Im thinking im going to keep my 03 she has never let me down!

id say for 14k sell it. you can find an 04-06 KR for 12-14 with good miles easily. i understand you love your truck but this is a once in a life time offer and it would be the best thing to do.

if u have a chance to upgrade and get something better then go for it. thats my philosophy...

Thats the thing will the newer truck be better? like glc said they have there problems also. Thats why i am thinking im going to keep the 03. If i go to a 04 well that was the first year truck so they have there own problems(cam phasers, plugs etc) 05's had cam phasers, fuel injector issues. 06 and up is probaly out of my price range

Well since the old man was so nice i decided to call and tell him i wasnt interested in his offer. He said what would he have to do to get me to sell it to him. I said that it is a good truck and my financial status wont let me put extra money on a newer truck. He asked if i would take 14,500 for it and i told him no, he said well all i can do right now is $15,000 and that is pushing it.I asked him why he wanted my truck so bad, he told me that he had a 02 KR identical to mine that his son wrecked a year ago(only had 27,000 miles on it) and he has yet to this day find another one in the condition his was in, until he saw mine.

So after about 20 mins of talking he told me when i was ready to sell let him know and he would make it worth while for me to sale it. So i decided to keep my baby . I Started to tell him to buy me a '10 f150 and then i would give him my truck but dont think he wouldve went for it

You got him to say $15k.... if the old man wants it that bad, hey... through your offer at him. Negotiate. You still have the NO in your back pocket. Who knows... maybe he has some contacts he can call in

Coy, that is SO tempting - I just looked up the suggested retail book on it, and that's only 13 grand in my zip code. However, I don't think you are gonna find anything you are gonna like that you can afford to replace it.

I sorta had the same kinda situation here a couple years ago when gas prices were nuts and truck values were in the crapper - I was over at the Ford dealer looking at the leftover stripped out XL's they were selling for $9998. They offered me 4 grand for mine - and private party book at the time was $2700. I almost went for it.

I'd sell it for 15. That is an amazing offer.
