Something else that can happen, - the internal pump line may burst, split or just leak. I've seen them split personally,- the line right on the pump itself.

i can start it then drive stop shut it off then it will be a pain to start, NOT always but 60% of the time. stock battrey connectors i hear the pump and it has fuel pressure

jbrew might be on to something here with the internal pump line bursting / leaking he put some pics up on my thread from a couple of days ago that shows the line he is talking about. the tread is ( help with fuel pump replacement ) sounds to me like you have running fuel pressure but not enough starting pressure sounds to me like a weak fuel pump. go to auto zone rent a fuel pressure gauge (you get your money back after you return it) and check it at the fuel rail not sure whats the right pressure is but auto zone can look it up for you. while your there have them run your codes form your PCM and post any here. you can also try a complete reboot of your PCM by takeing both the neg and pos battery cables off for 20 min when you go to start it you will see your gauges sweep and reset. its a shot in the dark but what do you have to lose. good luck and keep us posted.

It ended up being fuel pump failure when you turn the key on check the fuel pressure on the fuel rails

It could also be the anti-theft device, try unhooking the positive cable for 5 minutes and then see if it will start

Okay, that was four years ago. They're long moved on.

NEVER disconnect the positive cable first, disconnect the NEGATIVE cable first.

If no start spray a little carb cleaner or brake cleaner into intake and see if it starts. If it light right up problem is fuel related.Just don't spray into any vehicle ahead of a hot wire mass air flow sensor. In this case use a large vacuum lint to spray in. (booster hose works good) This is an old quick and dirty test to save diagnostic time. A hot relay can also indicate a pump with excessive draw. Relays should not get hot under normal operating conditions.
