Just thought I'd share my project.

I'd just thought I'd share my new little summer project that I'm pretty stoked about. This past weekend I picked up this rolled over 2002 supercrew that I'm going to use as a donor with 80,000 on truck and motor, freshly rebuilt trans, shift kit, stall, poi rear w/410 gears, programmer, fms fuel pump and injectors, and a few other goodies. Got a really good deal on it, so I've decided to do a entire swap with my 2001 silver flareside which now has about 180,xxx on a still tired running 4.6. So far I've just been breaking down the donor to get rid of a bunch of stuff I don't need to clear room, because I finally convinced my parents to let me do this at there San Antonio house by promising them that the garage wouldn't look out of hand :D. Although I'm not new to doing my own mechanical and maintenance work, this is my first time doing this type of project, I know that everything should be pretty straight forward when swapping and should be a direct fit on my truck (if wrong please correct). But, any input, advice, or tips would really be appreciated.
Thanks
-Dan

Are you just going to swap cab and bed or are you putting the drivetrain out of the rolled truck into your flareside?

The plan is to pull the complete engine/trans, & rearend out of the rolled crew and just swapping into the flareside. Everything was running fine even with the truck rolled like it is, so I'm guessing I shouldn't have to many issues.... Right??

You should sell me some interior parts :P.

You shouldn't have any issues unless you are switching to a 5.4. At that point you will need to make sure that you have a driveshaft for a 5.4(9:75) there, and you will need to get your 4.6 PCM reflashed to accompany the 5.4. Other than that, have fun!

i love your flare!
this should be a sick build.

brads right about the dshaft. Id just have one custom made honestly, it should run you around $250.

I think swapping all the electronics from the donor truck might be a good idea...

if you do get a custom DS, make sure to go with a 2-pc.

Why should he have to change driveshafts? The transmission should be the same and shouldn't make the distance from the tranny to the rear end any different.

b2therad Jul 27, 2010 01:40 PM

9:75s have a much larger housing and therefore need a shorter driveshaft.

1clean42 Jul 27, 2010 01:42 PM

Not all 5.4s come with 9.75s.

Well I do apologize.. I dont see a supercrew 5.4 coming with a 8.8, but whadda I know?

No need to apologize, lol...just did some searching and I guess I'm wrong. Coulda sworn they only came on 7700s and Lightnings.

I figured i would have to have a new ds made to fit since the crew is obviously longer, different ends and won't fit the flare. I am going to consider a 2 piece since i do plan on going lower in the future. besides tune/recalibration,custom-made ds, i should be in the clear according to what I've heard. again thanks for the responses.

actually, IIRC, Patrick told me that the supercrew and supercab are the same frame....i want to say the same wheelbase as well, but don't hold me to that one...:o
