If you can buy a "pretty nice truck" for $3000, So can everybody else. Why would they buy yours instead for $3500 -4000 ?

In the real world what you have put into it or are going to put into it, doesn't amount to a pee hole in a snow bank.
Would you pay $4200 for a 13 yr old truck with 262,000 miles on it, rusty cab corners and tailgate. I sure as hell wouldn't.
If you wound up getting your $2900 back out of it I think you would have done damn good.
It's still a good looking truck, keep it and run the hell out of. Get all your teenage foolishnes out of your system on this truck. It will make you and let you appreciate your next truck even more and then you will take better care of it in the long run.
Agree 100%

I just sold last week a 97 Lariat, 5.4 loaded with every option for $4000. It had 217,000 miles, but it looked great on the inside but had a few dings and dents outside, I put it on Craigslist and sold it in one day, It did not have any rust anywhere and was a good solid truck.

oh really? apparently you know my truck better then i do. the ONLY rust is a tiny spot behind the wheel, a cab corner, and the drivers door. all of it is easy to fix.

on 87 it has a major ping. we also had a 98 expy 4.6 that did the same thing. it also does it with 89. ts enough of a ping with 87 that i thought i threw a rod.

read your manual to. it says the truck needs a minimum of 89 octane.

taking pics today. trucks going up for sale.

Negative. It says 87. If it pings on 87, you have a problem. The Expy had a problem too.

#1) My truck runs just fine on regular unleaded so much I can't justify an extra .20 per gallon times 24

#2) What kind of gas mileage is your next "nice truck" gonna get ? unless it's a 4cyl chebby S-10

#3) If it pings on 87 octane, you must disclose that to any prospective buyer or you may inherit more issues

I missed the rust part, nobody gonna want anything with rust except to use maybe as a work truck. ppl aren't going to pay that much for a work truck

Pinging on 87?

I know a couple of guys that have run superchargers on 89 with a little octane booster.
