Battery drain
Battery drain
My 96 f150 with 5.0 is my plow truck. It only gets used in the winter and maybe a couple times in the summer. When i tried to start it after a couple weeks of sitting the battery was dead. I put in a new battery yesterday and it started right uo but when i came out today to start it it was near dead and the truck would not start??. Where does one begin to find out where the drain could be... any help guys...
Your forgiven.
It's a fault that can happen with any year vehichle.
I bet if you have the Alternator tested that a faulty Diode stack will show up.
What this does is drain the battery to ground back through a short in the alternator diode stack.
Contuined use of the truck with this condition will boil the water out of the battery and cause shortened battery life.
The fault looks to the regulator (on the alternator) as if the battery always needs charging in excess. This causes battery plate damage and loss of battery capacity.
Good luck.

well checked the alternator at autozone and he says it is fine, But does this guy really know what he is doing, well it did not look like he did. He took forever to just hook it up. What else whould i look for. What if i leave the alternator unplugged and see if the battery still drains overnight???, would this tell me the same thing. Or maybe pulling fuses until no drain on battery??..
