I think I did ok?

Just picked it up this afternoon.
1997 4.6L 4x4 160,000 miles
1800.00 out the door.

Little bit of rust, and needs new gaskets at the exhaust manifold, but otherwise mechanically sound.

What do you think?

Not bad at all for a 4x4. Good find. At least you didn't get one with a 5.4 and have to worry about the spark plugs with that mileage.

What are you talking about ?? The 5.4L and 4.6L get the SAME mileage. Unless your pulling a load, then the 5.4L gets better with less effort.

Also ~The 5.4L & 4.6L share the same heads,- their interchangeable. The 4six will shoot them out as well, just as much, -maybe more than the 5.4L's.

You don't know Jack buddy.

I was talking about the 160,000 miles on the truck and if the plugs were never changed and it was a 5.4, it could be a big problem. I have never heard about the 4.6s having such a problem with plugs. There, I learned something.
BTW, who's Jack? LOL. You're right, I don't know Jack

And that's a Michigan truck !! I mean, a little rust,-that's it. Lucky you. I @ 274,000 and she's full of holes, - well she was anyway. The worst has been repaired. If I were you, I would sand blast the inside lower bed panels and take care of any surface rust now. Grind it out, all of it. Then hit it with self etching primer and undercoat. Then fab up a wheel well for the rear on both sides. Ford did a pretty shabby job of it. If you don't,the gas tank filler neck and overflow will develop rust holes. Check yours out, - not kidden. Yea without a wheel well in the back, that Michigan salt gets everywhere and grows roots.

Good luck with it, -looks clean.

SCUSE me - the plug issues you are thinking about with the 5.4's are only with the 3v engines - from 2004 to mid 2008. They stick and break when you try to remove them.

Both the 4.6 and 5.4 2v engines from 97 to late 03 have the plug self-ejection issues.

Not planning on doin much to it. Mostly going to be a drive around town and hunting truck. Might do some rust repair and line-x the rockers.
Maybe lights in the bumper (why don't I have them already?) and a sound system too, but not much $$$ that can't be removed.

I just wouldnt put money into a truck that isnt worth much at all. Agreed that doing necessary repairs and a few things to make you satisfied is cool. Thats all
