Tail Gate handle stopped working

OK i searched a ton of threads and couldn't see one that covered this. Today I went to drop the tailgate and pulled up on the handle and it wouldnt drop. It feels like the handle isnt disengaging the mechanism inside the tailgate. Can anyone tell me how the handle comes off or how to fix this issue.......

Did you try unlocking it? Sometimes mine will lock on its own.

take the panel off the inside of the tailgate, it should be 6 torx screws, like a T25 i think, and take a look and see what happened

Yeah you have to go through the back side, and at the top half of the tail gate you will see the screws that pat is talking about. You also could try pushing in on it and seeing if it just doesn't have enough rome to release all the way with presure on it, and if thats the case then the latches will need to be realinged.

That happened to me the other day. I was about to take off the panel when I tried locking and then unlocking it with my key instead of the remote and that worked. Not sure what happened or why it didnt drop

Mine got sticky this year, pulled the access panel off, lubed every joint, now it works like a charm. I know on rangers you can use a flat blade screwdriver from the inside to open each mechanism and drop the gate that way.

not really, just mount a lock actuator and wire it into one of the back door locks, or passenger lock if its a non screw
