binding rear?

well, tried searching and only 6 threads came up. im wondering if you guys can give any other ideas to check out. my 97 scab hasnt really given me any problems, so i want to make sure she's in good shape. but sometimes i've noticed that when making turns (either right or left) the rear kinda binds up & i can feel like a "notchy" feeling as im turning. i dont feel anything in the front, just the back. driving straight, i have no problems. i felt something like this before on my old wrangler. after i replaced the rear axle with a dana 44 & switched to rear discs, i didnt have the problem. i had a tech check the rear differential, both nothing out of the ordinary. i was expecting to see the gears a little chewed up (like in my wrangler), but everything was fine. the fluid was just pretty dirty.

truck is stock height with no suspension modifications. after changing the fluid it feels (maybe my imagination) a little better, but i can still feel it. any other ideas on what i can check out?

Is your rear end a LS? If so, it could be the clutches binding.

ill be honest with you, im not sure. i think it may be since when i spun the one rear wheel while it was on the lift, the other didnt move (that i can remember). that would constitue a LS, right?

ever go around a turn and gas it?...you must have a LS my friend, nothing to worry about here. if you start hearing a popping or clicking...it might be time to re-build ur LS w/ spider gears and clutches.

i had to do this after i bought my trk, no problems since and i run 33's on 3.73's

Yep, check the axle code. If you don't know, I'm assuming you didn't put the additive in the new fluid. If you find out that it is a LS, go pick up the correct stuff from Ford. It costs about $5. That alone may fix your problem.

75w-140Gl-5 synthetic fluids 5.5-6.9pnts or 2 3/4-3 1/2 quarts (2 pnts = 1 quart
FMC friction modifier.
4oz tube for 5.49 I think.
Add the whole bottle to LS rear differential

well, the representative from everwear, advised to add the "friction modifier" additive when putting in the fluid. he said adding it wont hurt it, but if i have LS and dont add it, it will. so we did add the friction modifier that comes with the service kit.
