Remote Oil Filter Location

I recently ordered the Trans-Dapt #1127 oil filter relocation kit because after two oil changes on my '99 5.4L, I just about had it with where the oil filter is in its stock location. But anyway, where's a good place to mount the oil filter with the relocation kit?

I was looking at Galaxy's setup but it's kinda hard to tell where it is exactly. I was thinking about mounting it on the inside of the left frame rail just in front of the steering box, but I think it's too exposed right there. Suggestions?

That's where I mounted . It was safe there for 60,000 miles until I traded the truck in. I did have to use a mount adapter though.

Here is a good thread.

This thread will show you what Galaxy did.

The way the filter is now (I have a '99 w/ 5.4L) makes it darn near impossible to get to because the crossmember, left frame rail, steering box, and the sway bar are all in the way. That and it's difficult to get it off without spilling oil all over the place. The left LCA is covered in road crap because of oil being spilled on it by the technicians at the oil change places.

Thanks for the links greencrew. BigDeal mounted his oil filter exactly where I was thinking about putting mine, so I think I'll just go with that. I think I'll have to get some 90 degree fittings somewhere though, since I don't want the rubber hoses making a 90 degree turn out of the adapter that's on the block.

Are there any alternatives to the Earl's Performance fittings that BigDeal used? I'm sure they are good quality fittings, but at $25 a pop, that's more than I spent on the kit. These fittings look pretty promising, but they also look like the same ones I can find at a hardware store.

(Pic of BigDeal's setup from the first link that greencrew posted):

Can't go wrong with the OEM filter location behind the bumper.

Those 1127 transdapt kits, my experience

Have you found the standard 30 inch hoses to be too short?
I could only find one location to mount my remote filter with the 30 inch hose.
The filter is horizontal at this moment.
Now that I've been through the entire install, I almost need to purchase a
complete 'kit' via individual components to get what I want.

Did anyone else with the 1127 kit have to modify the oil filter nipple at the block
(shorten the nipple -per Transdapt instructions-) due to leaking, not sealing completely,
once the adapter was tightened to the block?

Has anyone used the adapters with side connections instead of the stock adaptors (top connections)?
Much easier to work with?

Is the OEM location similar to Galaxy's setup?

IBrakeForNobody... Did U buy the kit at 4wheelparts.com?

I opened the link in your first thread.
It leads to 4wheelparts.com.
I notice the KIT price is $75.00.
I bought my kit at Summit Racing for $60? plus shipping.

I also notice 4wheelparts.com a price match guarantee.
You could possibly save yourself $15 bucks.

FYI, nhford

Galaxy soaked some $$$ into that one. If I needed one, I would try -

http://www.car-part.com/ first and look for years 97 - 98 5.4L Remote oil filter assembly.

Hell, try ebay as well, you never know...

BTW - I've heard some after market systems were junk, so be careful. I believe the one from Summit is the bad one, can't recall, but I think that's one you don't want.

OH YEA, I remember now, a couple guys here purchased that kit and they had to make some kind of part to get it to work. Maybe they'll post up, it wasn't to long ago. Or look for the thread, it's here in this forum.

Yea, Galaxy's is Priemo, very well done! Just Pricey, - did you see the shocks Galaxy's running - I want a set of those lol.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Since there's a 4 Wheel Parts store nearby, I printed out Jegs' webpage and their webpage and brought them into the store when I ordered it last week. Jegs had it for $49.99, so they gave it to me for $56 out the door because that's about how much it would be with shipping from Jegs. Good eye ya got. I ordered it from 4WP since they can get just about everything on their website in the next day, and I don't have to pay shipping.

Thanks. I'm pretty much deciding between there or in front of the steering box like BigDeal.

I think some people had to trim the threaded nipple on the engine block that the oil filter screws onto in order for the bypass adapter to seat properly. If that's the case, I hope that thing will unscrew out of the block, because trying to trim it where it is is going to be a PITA.
