well the past couple days ive been thinking about a way to add more lights to the truck. piaa valance isnt an option anymore and i dont want to change up the hellas on the front since i use the for road driving.

so i was thinking a roof mounted light bar would be cool. ive still been kicking around the idea and havent had the time to draw anything up yet really. but i was also thinking a roof rack behind it might help fill out the look. both of these wouldnt be to hard to make with some pipe, metal and a welder so im thinking i can do them on the cheap (cept the lights) and add to the prerunner look i have going so far,

heres an old pic of the truck i chopped awhile back and i added today the style/type of rack i was thinking about. the light bar will be mounted at the front of it (kinda like one piece) and the whole thing removeable etc.



so what do we think? suggestions, im also trying to decide what kind of lights to run, i want to run 4-6 facing the front and then at least 2 facing backwards

I'd personally be nervous fabricating something myself to mount on my roof (water leaks, rust, etc). I've always wanted to mount something on my bed towards the back of the cab. Something similar to what OGTerror has set up.

But great idea having something that's removable. My truck barley fits in any garages as it is now. Having the option to remove it would be great. Good luck with it.

yea ive thought about that. the plan would be to have a small tab with studs welded to it and then mounted through the roof with studs outside and plate under the headliner. (not sure yet how ill secure the plate to the roof) but this would have a rubber gasket between the plate and roof on the inside and the meeting point of the stud and cab would be sealed with silicone. then the bar/rack would be bolted onto the studs with a gasket between it and the roof so no metal to metal contact. and this would drop me from the parking garage list. im less than 6" from hitting it as the truck sits now

 

You should totally just mount a huge a$$ spotlight that swivels on the top of your truck. You know, like the one used for the bat signal. It would look totally sweet.

 

do you have a photoshop of what exactly you are planning on doing? I'm not a big fan of those headache racks. too many lights would be overkill

 

I was thinking about doing this too. Thule makes some bars that fit our trucks and then all u need is a rack to place on them to bolt up some lights.

 

I've been kinda wanting to do something simmilar, but I'm wishy washy. I was thinking that I would like to do lights on the roof like the super duty, but I'm not sure if it would look stupid on a 150 or not. Maybe what I should do is buy some and stage them up there and see how it looks... and I also wouldn't mind doing a visor, but the $$$$$ it can cost

honestly ive always liked the look with a cap and then a big basket/rack on the top of that.. that looks good too tough..

 

I've thought about something like this too, almost like a scaled down version of something on an X-terra. For me, I doubt I'd run any lights but I'm sure it'd look good. Theres a Screw that I see from time to time that has a roof rack/basket and it looks pretty good. Maybe you can get a rack for a sport-trac or something and mod it to fit?

no spare up there but yea i would eventually put a high lift up there .

think if i get some time soon im gona draw it up and do it on solidworks then make a cardboard model to set on the truck and check the size

 

I love the safari racks...hate headache racks....

Since yours is a 2wd prerunner style do a rear mounted tailgate spare Tire rack in place of yor tailgate that would look real good as your next mod....
