98 f150 i need help

98 f150 i need help

hi i have 98 f150 4.6 4x4 and it has really started running like crap lately it didnt really run that great when i bought it but it is worse now it has a bad sputtering/hesitation problem real bad going up hills i recently changed my plugs and wires although i did not use motorcraft i also changed fuel filter and i use injector cleaner all the time i did recently clean my maf and it seemed to help it but still isnt right im thinking i might have a coil problem just not sure if any one has any ideas that could possibly help me that would be great thanks

change them again, and use motorcraft this time...everything you change you should use motorcraft.

do you have a check engine light?

could be a coil....yours has 2 coils right?

yeah it does have 2 im sure my wires are not crossed i done the plug change my self and i was carefull to not mix the order up this might be a dumb question but how can u check for a bad coil with out taking it to a shop and could bad cats have any thing to do with it thanks for ur help

cats, they make a sound like theres marbles bouncing around, or they will glow red

coil-use a extra spark plug, gap it right, and plug it into a spark plug wire and place it on your upper intake. when you turn the car over (dont start it) the spark should be blue, NOT WHITE, if its white, the coil or distributor is bad, if the spark is blue, then the coil is still good, the blue spark is much hotter, thats why i say it must be blue

how i was told to test them.

i checked my coils the way u said to and they both seem to be ok the spark was not white it was a purple blue im gonna change the plugs again this weekend and use motorcraft this time maybe that will help i hope im not gonna give up

Are you using a small amount of dielectric grease inside the wire boots? What brand of wires did you use?
