2002 f150 rear axle on a 1997 f150, will it fit/work?
2002 rear axle swap to a 1997 complete! now have a breaking issue. any info?
my rear axle on my 1997 f150 step side, with a 4.2 V6 motor is wore out. I have a chance to get a rear axle from a 2002 F150, with a 4.6 V8 motor, 4 door, crew cab. Will this axle bolt right into my truck? Can I use the disc breaks from that donor axle if it bolts on? any information would be greatly appreciated. My current axle sounds like a freakin NASCAR inside. Thanks.

I thought the screws even with the 4.6 got the 9.75 by default?
Is your truck 4x4? If so, got to match the ratios up.
Anyway, a driveline shop can shorten your shaft no problems for under a hundred bucks.

yah shouldn't be a problem, you wont cause a major mechanical issue if your new axle doesnt match the truck since you are a 2wd, but your speedometer will be off if they dont match

I got the axle out of a 2002 crew cap. paid $150.00 for it. looks to me to be a straight bolt in. Hopefully this swap will get rid of my whine. Thanks for the info. Should be put in by saturday.
BTW - the guy I bought it from has lots of F150 parts. He had 3 or 4 rollling trucks with front end damage and more parts in his warehouse. any one wants his number let me know.

axle swap went smooth. the new , used axle is purring like a kitten. now i can actually hear my readio on low volume with out the wine. only issue i had was the new 2002 axle had differnt sized lug nutz. had to buy 10 new nuts for 30 bucks. now i need to carry 2 different tire irons. no biggy.
rear disc breaks dont' seem to engage as much as they should. the brake pedal goes down pretty far and the truck does not seem to break well. I bled all 4 wheels twice and still the same breaking issue. Do or will the 2002 master cyclinder make it work properly? do i need the 2002 booster? any other issue with trying to get the breaks right? I really would like to get this corrected. thanks alot for the info.

I guess it's a personal preference sort of deal, -purring or humming. I would rather have her humming, -if I had a choice in the matter.
You need a master cylinder out of an 02 I am going through the same thing the disc brakes have a different proportion valve
Yeah they switched from 12mm to 14mm in 00 iirc
Do I need the brake booster also? Anything else needed to put the 02 master cylinder?
