Hi-pitched front end noise...03 fx4 screw.
I guess this is my first REAL post here..so here we go.
03 screw fx4 with about 94k on it.
Recently, I have noticed a squeal from the front of the truck from a roll to 20mph. At 20mph it stops and don't hear another thing. It is something rotational with the driveline, as the tone changes with the speed.
It does it in 4wd. It doesn't matter if the brakes are engaged or not, it still does it.
With all that said...I replaced the front pads about 800 miles ago, but just started squealing recently to my knowledge. I may put the wheels off to check out everything, but have any of you ran into this problem?
Suggestions?

Could be a number of things. Changing pitch while accelerating could be anything also, from moving parts to drive belts.
Does it make noise just sitting in park or only while moving.
If only while moving, try to put the front of the truck, 1 tire at a time, leaving the other on the ground, put it up on a jack and grab the front tire from 12 oclock and 6 oclock and see if there's any play. Also grab it from 9 oclock and 3 oclock, again check for play. You might notice some play from 9 and 3 in the steering but it shouldn't make any clunks. Wheel bearings will make noise when going out. Also, put both tires up at the same time and make sure your steering wheel isnt locked... then one tire at a time, grab and turn it into a full turn both directions while spinning it... inspect your front cv axles for any unnecessary movement or binding while doing so.

From my experiences, the cv boots dry out a bit, needing silicone spray or DOT 3 brake fluid works too. Other than that, the anti rattle clips the front pads sit in sometimes slide into the rotor because nobody folds the tabs preventing this. Other than that it's hard to call over the internet.
Thanks guys...
I am gonna put it up on the lift tomorrow at work and see if I can make it produce the noise with no weight on the suspension.
Its driving me nuts cause I know when I am pulling out into a field to hunt that the critters can hear the mouse like squeal.

My truck made that noise when my cv boot tore and allowed alot of road grime to get in there. Check the cv boots to see if they are torn. If they are, chances are you're gonna need to replace them. Luckily it's not too hard of a job
