How many hash marks are in a quart of oil?

Hi I did a search on this but wasn't able to find the answer, does anyone know how many of the squares, or diamonds, however you want to look at it, are in a quart of oil? I'm trying to figure out how much oil I'm using. My truck has the 5.4 2-valve motor.

Ok great, there are 10 squares in the hash area, so I guess there are about 10 in a quart, thanks. That means I'm using about half a quart in 1000 miles. I recently changed my pcv valve, and before I changed it, I was using about a quart in 1000 miles. Does anyone know why Ford recommends changing the pcv valve at 120,000 miles? Is this something they screwed up on? How many miles is the pcv good for?

their is no telling when a PCV may stick or become plugged. many people never change them and have 0 issues. Most of the time they are replaced as preventative maintanance.

how many miles on your truck and how long are you letting it sit before checking the oil level? does it smoke blue at startup? overall that much in 1000 miles isnt an issue though.

Well it wasn't sticking, but the spring tension was less compared to the new pcv. I have over 117,000 miles and I was waiting 'till the recommended 120,000 miles to change it, but I'm saving oil by changing it sooner. I think I'll just put in a new one at 30,000 miles from now on. I haven't noticed blue smoke, and Ford says up to one quart in 800 miles is acceptable.
