I have a ScanGauge II in my truck and it can read transmission fluid temperature. Where exactly is it getting this reading from and how accurate is it overall?

My truck is a stock 2001 F150 4x4 SuperCrew Lariat with a 5.4L and I have the 4R70W tranny.
