With your 8.8 still installed , driveshaft removed and the truck on a flat surface measure from the pinion flange on the differential to the end of the output shaft on the transmission. Install the 9.75 and measure again. The difference between the two is how much to take off the driveshaft. Mine was about 1 1/4 inch.

I figured that's how you did it, but was kinda hoping there was an easier way to go about it. Hopefully i'll have this thing under there in the next week or two, really looking forward to driving the truck with the 4.56s and LS.

Just to make sure...when I was unloading it outa the back of my truck I dropped one end of it about a foot off the ground, maybe higher in my dads shop with concrete floors. Could this have messed up anything?

UPDATE:

scratch the last post :o axle seems fine.

I'm looking at getting this thing under the truck this weekend. As far as shortening the driveshaft goes, would it be totally out of the question to drive it without shortening it? As in driving it down the road or about 10 minutes away to the driveline place.

Still gotta take the wire wheel to it and paint it, but hopefully i'll have that done by Thursday night. I'll post some pictures then

DO NOT DRIVE IT. Sorry for the caps. Remove the drive shaft, tape a large baggie over the tail housing and use 4Hi to drive there

yeah, seriously, do as JMC suggested. one hard bump with the driveshaft stuffed in there will destroy the transfer case. i would rather risk a little wear on the front hubs than destroying the whole transfer case...

10-4 thanks guys, just wanted to make sure. I'll probably just borrow my mom's car for the day since I might use a different shop a little further away. Any idea on how long it might take a driveline place to do the work? I figure a single cut, weld, and balance shouldn't take anymore than a few hours
