Agreed! Definitely not OK to put a tire for a 16.5" wheel on a 16" wheel.

Yea, what's even worse is that he tried to ensure me it was safe. Told me how a guy came in the other day, and expressed the same concern as me. But, he showed the customer a 16" tire mounted on a 16.5" wheel, so the guy got a set.
Hope the guy changes out before it's too late.

Thats all hogwash my friend. Thats his attempt at getting you to waste your money.. there is a reason they put on almost every 16.5" tire **DO NOT MOUNT ON 16" WHEEL". Don't let those guys fool ya man, and make sure you get what you want. You can talk some good deals out of those tire shops if you act like you know what you are doing when ya walk in there.

Yea, I was hoping to find something I wanted, but he just didn't have anything in 35 or 315, except for the one low tread, and the 16.5 tires.

Funny, when I was looking for 285s, all I found was 35s/315s. Now it's reversed. Found like 5+ good deals on 285s. Oh well, I gotta regear, and throw the body lift on first, so I got some time. Hoping to order the gears within the week. Just can't decide on brand. Those dang install kits are almost just as much as the freaking gears.

Well, as I'm leaving he says he does have a set of 35x12.50 r16. Said they were practically brand new.

Once he pointed them out, I realized they weren't brand new, which was fine. Still thinking about getting them, I looked and saw that they were for a 16.5 rim. He then still tries to sell them to me, and says I'll be fine with a 16.5 tire on a 16" wheel. I declined and quickly left.

Fun adventures at the tire shops.

The cracks will be fine, thats nothing to worry about. If you ever get down to tampa ill show you what to look for as far as dangerous dry rot or cracks.

Now the 16.5 mounted on a 16" wheel is stupid. Ive seen some people mount 16.5" tires on 17" wheels and 16" Tires on 16.5" wheels. The key is they are stretching the tire to make a tighter fit to the wheel. Im not sure how they go about doing it but its always been offroad only.

Are you going to install the gears yourself? I would say go with Yukon or Ford Racing if I was you.

No, meet a guy recently that said he would help me out with the install. He is big into cars and such. He regeared his truck to 4.10s, and said he hasn't had any problems. His truck has 300+k I believe, so I trust him.
Seems like he knows a lot too. He is a member on here, just don't think he post much. It was a chance meeting too. Went to get a TV from him off CL, and saw his SCREW sitting on Lightning wheels, which led to about 20 minutes of truck talk before we both had to run.

For Yukons front and rear, plus both install kits it is gonna run around $900.
Ford Racing is about $100 under. Called a shop about Yukons, and the guy recommended Nitro gears. Said they are a newer company, but has high quality stuff. Said they switched to Nitro when Precision went out b/c Nitro uses a lot of the same stuff as Precision. Total for the Nitros is $780. Total for Motiv is about $750ish. Gonna try and see if I can get a package deal from somewhere.

Well, after driving a little while to get them. I was a little dissapointed in the description. 2 of them were about 80 maybe less. Some cracking in the groves though. The other 2 were at about 10-15%. Pretty much unusable, but would work as a spare.

I picked them up anyway b/c there was 2 315s bfg a/ts for sale locally with about 80% left as well, so that would of given me a full set. Dang ad was gone by the time I got home.

So now I'm looking for a deal on 2 315 BFGs, or back to a different set. Kinda worried about the cracking/dry rot. Does it look bad, or not serious at all?
those arent from dry rot, those are part of the tread design, both mine and my dads came with them.

Think I could fit a 14.5" wide tires on my current wheels? I don't think they are 12" wide. Maybe 9 or 10".

Yeah, a 14.50 tire will fit on a 10 inch wide wheel. The question is whether or not the tire/wheel will fit the truck.
