ABS Light PITA

'97 F150 S-Cab, 243000 MI on the clock.

ABS light came on intermittently especially when I turned a tight corner. Just changed rear differential sensor, now light comes on and stays on as soon as I gas it.

Any ideas?

Forgot. It's a 4X4 and I did mentioned it to the guy at Advanced Auto Parts. Puzzled as to why the ABS light now stays on continuously with a new sensor. I would have thought at worse, it would still be occasional.

I have a 99 and its been doing the same thing, went to the parts store and plugged it in and its not throwing any codes. I havent felt a difference in the braking since its been on. Brakes are good, I am a loss as well.

I don't think it will throw any codes with the scanner that Auto Zone and other part stores have. Not sure what it's called but the tool the dealer uses will display the codes. OBDII??
Regardless, dealers want $60 just to plug it in.

I posted this on two Ford sites and nobody seems to know what's going on.

On my 1999 F150 when light came on Ford Dlr wanted $200 to fix. Went to NAPA and bought sensor for pumpkin for $12 and installed in less than 5 min.

Your brakes will still work just won't have the anti-lock feature. If you replaced the rear sensor there is probably one on the front pumpkin (4 wheel drive) and or both front wheel sensors causing the light to stay on. Just replace one at a time till light goes out. Still cost less than dlr charge.

I would look at your wheel speed sensors since that is what the abs system is ran off of.

I know this is an old post but MrTruck352 what is the best way to replace the rear diff speed sensor? I'm used to being on a forum with a thousand how-to's and it doesn't seem like there are many that exist on the F150 forums. I basically can feel the sensor on top of the pumpkin but I am unsure what size the bolt is due to rust build up and am having trouble getting my head up high enough to see what I'm doing. lol Man, what a spot - they couldn't have mounted it easily on the back of the pumpkin? btw it's a 98 F150 S-cab 8' XLT 4x2. Thanks guys for any help!

I can't remember what size, however, I jacked the truck up, used stands and it was pretty easy to get to and change. I also wish I could remember what I did to get rid of the light. I believe after I changed the sensor, I disconnected the battery to reset and was good to go.
