Not sure, all I know is when that light goes on I better b-line it for a fill up. Blink twice , then look at the gauge again, - now it's on frickin E Yikes!

That said, I'm still only able to get 22 gallons in her when I make to the pits. I guess it's sweatin that "E" factor for me.....Usually ='s your all done, game over, goin to be hoofin it because your out of fuel, you dumb***

Ok, your tank is 24 gallons. You put in 21 gallons, meaning there was 3 gallons in the tank. Last time I checked, 3 gallons was 1/8th of a 24 gallon tank.

the only time a gas gauge needs to be correct is when its reading empty. of course this holds true in aviation where you cant exactly "pull over" when you run out

well i didnt get technical with it..just looked at the guage and it was resting on the red mark..which is E, which isnt between E and 1/4..which is not 1/8th

That's about where mine comes on - and if I immediately fill up when it comes on, it takes 21 gallons. 25 gallon tank. Most I've EVER put in is 24.5 gallons and I was pOOping bricks.

It's not a good idea running it down to the light from a fuel pump cooling standpoint, but if you are in a bind you have about a 50 mile cushion there. I was in a bind - I was out in the middle of nowhere and spaced out getting gas in the last town. When the light came on I was 50 miles from the next gas station.

I'm waiting for my stepdaughter to burn out her fuel pump - she routinely runs her minivan down to where the computer says 0 miles to empty.

yea i realize that..i also was in kind of a bind..i had to drive 30 minutes to school for a test i couldnt be late for or I'd get a 0 and didnt have time to stop and get gas again, normally i fill up at 1/4 tank.

yea my mama runs her accord till the light comes on everytime for about 80k miles now.
