Lift question

Ok so I have searched through some of the threads and have not gotten the exact answer on this question. I have an 03 Screw 5.4 FX4, looking at buying a set of rims and tires (not a tire expert at all) I was wondering if a 315/70/17 would fit on a 17x9 rim and if I could crank the T-bars enough to make them fit on the truck or would I need a lift. Thanks for the help guys

No, that won't be enough lift. You will need at least a 3 inch body lift to clear that combo. Or you can use a 305/65-17 (33x12.50), 295/70-17 (34x12.00) or 285/70-17 (33x11.50) tire instead.

I've got 305/65/17 on 17x10s with T bar cranked and a cut valance...put keys in it and turned the bars halfway down and it clears about the same....trimmed my molded mudflaps too on the inside lip....but to answer your question...with keys and the t bars all the way up and a trimmed valance I bet the 315s would owrk on an 8 or 9 inch wide rim....especially if my 305s work on a 10" rim ....the 315 isn't any wider, just taller

So what is that number then if it's not the width? That was a rhetorical question...that number is the width of the tire. Every manufacturer uses different points on the tire to determine their width (10mm on a Bridgestone will not be the same 10mm on a Goodyear) but a 315 is at least 10 mm wider than a 305.

A tire gets taller because of the aspect ratio (a percentage)...75% of 315 is more than 75% of 305, thus the tire gets taller with an increase in width.

And if you've ever played around with wheels and tires, 10mm doesn't sound like much until you install that sucker...1/2" on a wheel or tire can make a huge, substantial difference...sometimes the difference between fitting or not fitting.

TIDOS, just my personal opinion but a 315/70 17 is basically a 35" tire. With no lift, irregardless of wether it physically fits or not, will look waaaaaay too crammed in there for your truck. It doesn't "fit" if you know what I mean. A 305 something will "fit" the truck much better.

these are stock 7.5 wides but yes they should fit as long as the rim backspacing is similar to the stock. if you kick the tires out much when you have it that crammed you will hit the fenders and wont be able to turn. tires are 35x12.5 km2's.

also heres a link to another forum where a kids selling keys and blocks

Fitment

Galaxy based on what you said I agree that they will looked crammed in the wheel well. It just sucks cause I am looking to get the GY wrangler Duratracs and on the 4wheelparts website they only had 285 and 315 so thats my dilemma. Thanks for the info guys
