Gas Cap Farts :)

I have had a High pressure fuel tank light for a month or so now and planned to buy a new cap but was not real concerned with it until I got the heater core replaced (Havent been driving)

But today while truck was Idling I noticed the fuel inlet with cap on basically burping or farting (what it sounds like)every minute or two..

Anyone ran into this or have any ideas?

and no I will not put Beano in my tank

My 97 F150 did the same thing, quite often actually. I never did find a fix for it.
Good luck.

High pressure fuel tank light? never heard of it. If your fuel cap is burping you've got evap problems, either the vapor management valve or canister vent solenoid. I'm assuming the cel is on, codes would help

And yes Drex it is the CEL light and my very last code, had just assumed it might be a Gas cap but now that i know its venting like that just wondered if anyone else had ran across it.. any help is appreciated.

i thought when the gas cap is loose or gasket is bad, the code that comes up is a small evap leak?

canister vent is most likely plugged, vent solinoid, canister, canister filter and hoses are all possible causes. A cap will not fix this. A cap is supposed to seal.

Parents had this issue on the Merc Grand Marquis. Cap replacement didn't fix it. After about 2 years and 6 dealer visits, one of the mechanics actually heard the noise (it was quite intermittent). Ended up being the clogged solenoid as Paralyzer said. Supposedly a dangerous condition if it's not fixed as the intent is to allow the release of gas fumes out of the tank.
