If you look at www.motorcraftservice.com, printing 1 of the owners manual showed 5w30, printing 4 shows 5w20, so they switched somewhere during the model year. Mine came with everything stating 5w20.
I use to build the 5.4 and 6.8 at Windsor engine plant and don't remember (could of very well been= bad memory at times) the 01 models bieng 5w20, 02's yes. Actually, about or at the same time is when they started putting the oil kettle and 5w-20 on the oil fill caps too instead of it just saying engine oil. Like I say though, whatever yours says, go with. You won't hurt the engine either way.

How many quarts of oil do these 5.4's take when changing the oil?
