Need Advice on Buying 98 F150

I need some advice i have found a 98 F-150 XL automatic transmission with roll down windows and manual locks. It was a Company truck and his 154k miles on it, they have all service records for the truck. The interior and exterior looks very good, however i have not driven or even sat in the truck. The asking price is $4950 and is negotiable. Does this sound like a decent deal? What about the miles is that something to be concerned about? Thanks, BJ

Off the top of my head that sounds high...lot of miles and very few options.

EDIT: check Kbb, I did a reg cab long bed in good condition and it came back at about $3,200.

Yeah, that price seems pretty high to me. What engine does it have? The 97-98 4.2's had timing chain gasket issues that would eventually cause hydro-locking if they weren't fixed. But, with 156K miles I'd say that one has been fixed.

Even if it's a V-8, that price is way too high. My son in law just bought a 98 Scab Lariat 4.6 4x4 offroad package in almost perfect condition with 158k for $6500. The 2wd XL is worth a fraction of that.

check on that engine. 1997's & early 1998's had a head gasket issue that caused faulty head gaskets to shrink and allow coolant to seep into the cylinder. just imagine what happens when that piston trys to compress water.

It was not a head gasket issue - it was lower intake manifold and front cover gaskets.
