Yep, happened to my truck after some dumby (me) forgot to tighten all lug nuts on one wheel after a pad replacement. It just happened to be a day my dad borrowed the truck and had to deal with tightening it back on. It didn't come off all the way but he stopped it after he felt it wiggling loose. You can believe me, double checking the lugnuts is pretty high priority after I take the wheels off for anything from now on.

That could have happened to me but hasn't yet (knock on wood).
At the time I was delivering papers at 4 in the morning and I got a flat so I went to hess so I could change it in the light and I when I put the wheel back on I only did it finger tight, i did 1 box and on the way to the second i felt a wobble so i stopped and checked and sure enough found out that I didn't tighten the lugs, had to get everything out again to tighten the wheel.

My tire shop prints it right on the invoice to recheck the torque after 50-60 miles.

After researching for many months. on an aftermarket aluminum rim, the lugs are already seated and should not require a re torque. but it does if the rim is new. this shouldnt stop me from getting a re torque, but if the wheel was torqued on properly to begin with I wouldnt have this problem. all the other wheels stayed on.

UPDATE

Insurance is still fighting the guy. I ended up making a claim and got re-embursed for 550 of the damage. they have sent out a request of payment, with documents and pictures and a statement from schwab.

How did it damage the axle shaft? i can see rotar and brake stuff but the axle shaft??

i have been having a prob latey even with a properly set TQ wrench my lug studs break in half as i tighten them. sometimes with lil effort so i need to by 20 new lug studs because now i dont trust them. ive alread had 4-6 break on dif wheels of the truck.
