2003 5.4L 2v and SeAfOaM, BK 44, etc

before you ask, YES I used the search function.

All of the posts I found on Seafoam talked about the 2004+ 5.4L 3vs. What about the 03 5.4L 2vs? I'm scared to death of doing my plug change EVEN though I have a 2v 5.4L because of all the horror stories I've read on the 04+ trucks.

I've read where people call seafoam BS according to its MSDS sheets and whats in it. All I know is there are thousands of people that say it has helped their engine---be it boat motor, lawn mower, car, truck, atv, etc etc. Logically, why would all these people lie? What would they have to gain from it? I do know that some vehicles have a very SENSITIVE fuel system and you can only use Techron.

I'm not too familiar with this BK 44 stuff either if one could elaborate.

I have 136,700 miles on my 03 SCREW. I do not know that maintence history other than the previous owner did "regular oil changes". I'd say he actually did them as he was insistent that this truck can only have the 5w-20 Motorcraft oil!

I have the Motorcraft plugs bought, new Motorcraft fuel filter bought, and plan on getting a Motorcraft PCV valve.

Would seafoam, BK 44 or something else HELP with my tune up?---DirtySCREW

I use seafoam every other fillup usually. I can definitely tell a difference on how the truck runs. I occasionally use it will a tank of 93, as I have a tune to run 93.

As for the oil, I know my 4.2 calls for 5w20, but I have heard of guys running 5w30 in synthetic though. But it's always best to use what Ford calls for it, since they were the ones that designed the truck an engine.......

You have NOTHING to worry about with the 2V - it's only the 3V plugs that stick and break due to their unique design.

I put fuel system additive in about once a year on general principles - either Techron or BG44K.

how much do you put in? I've been thinking about using some seafoam but 50,000 miles seems a bit clean to be adding it

And while we're on this subject, would adding a can of Engine Restore (silver can) be worth while on my high mileage engine? It suppose to fill in the scratches in the cylinder walls. I just changed the oil and filter. I've used the engine restore in a Jeep I had and I thought it seemed to help.----DirtySCREW

I just changed the oil on my '03 SCREW the other night and put a can of Engine Restore in with the Royal Purple 5w20. I also put a can in my boat engine since I had an exhaust manifold gasket fail and water got in the cylinders. I've heard other people say good things about the product. Can't hurt. I did a lot of cleaning to my engine on top of changing the plugs and COP's but my truck is running better than I ever remember.

Which is better though Seafoam or BK 44?? I think I may try a can of engine restore. I plan on doing an oil/filter change in about 3300 miles at 140K; then I will stay on 5K oil change intervals. I plan on staying with Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend (red bottle). I do plan on swithing out my transfer case and diffs to Royal Purple; and mybe even Trans fluid. I did notice that the Motorcraft oil "stunk". I've never noticed any oil I've used smell like that. hmmmmmm.---DirtySCREW

I would not put Restore into an engine unless it's all worn out and burning oil - and that would be only to keep it running as a beater.

I prefer BG44K, but it's not cheap. My second choice is Techron. We have a very technically savvy member who recommends Gumout with Regane (not the regular cheap Gumout).

There are 2 professional transmission rebuilders here who recommend that you NOT use RP in a 4R70W, but they do like Amsoil.

If you suck SeaFoam in thru the booster line or any other external, your doing more damage than good to your engine and converter. Petrol alone already contains the correct agents, Snake Oil is just that lol.

As said BG or Techron can compliment, but a Motor Vac service is one of the best. There's also one other service the dealership provides, can't recall the name ? Oh well, someone will know, - I know there's two different services for decarbonating.

Yea, don't chance Vapor lock or melting your converter cones with Seafoam, that's truly some nasty stuff.

ok...thanks for the info.

What about using Seafoam just in the gas tank and not sucking it thru a vac line? IS BK44 still better? Or Gumout w/ Regane?

And should I do this BEFORE a plug change? AFTER a plug change? BEFORE a fuel filter change? AFTER a fuel filter change?????-----DirtySCREW
