to easily detect a leak, spray foam cleaner on the outside of the window, and shoot compressed air from the inside, it will blow bubbles in the foam, have someone look from the outside and mark areas that need to be resealed

The only way to properly re-seal the window is to remove the whole thing and replace the entire seal. Like I said in an earlier post the window has a little track moulded into it that your supposed to follow with sealant all the way around and it meets and overlaps at the end. It's meant so that the seal is one continuous piece and is less likely to leak. The sealant I used on mine was a roll of 3/8 inch butyl sealant from the autoparts store and after 2 years still no recurring leak. I would just go ahead and try resealing the entire window with the butyl, as a roll is only like 10 dollars. So all it will cost you is 10 bucks and some time/work.

Good luck

I had a 97 F150 that did the same thing and so did my brother's 00 F150 that he use to have. I tried to fix mine several time and it just kept coming back..after i went to every glass shop i could find they all said to get it replaced, they would be waisting time trying to fix it and they couldn't guarantee that it would work. I was so tired of my truck smelling and getting the seat wet. So i finally got mine replaced with a C.R lawerance(I think that is what it was called)alum. framed one for 250. And so did my brother a few years later. Never had a prob since.

IF I were you i would just get a new one put in.

I knew it is a common thing when all the glass companys laughed when I asked them if they could fix it.

By getting a new one you mean window frame correct?- Harper 184? I saw this on the way to work, fixed what I thaught was the problem (brake light and sat antenna wire) and it still leaked from what I see. It's night, raining and midnight so maybe in the morning I'll test ala Patman and call the glass shops. One around here has a F-150 like mine so he might know exactly the issue. Otherwise if it's a matter of sealing the window again, I'll do that myself. I've taken all that plastic sh++ inside apart before to install rear speakers so it should be easy enough.

Now, when they replace the window frame, what gets replaced? All the windows you keep? Hope so, mine are tinted. Just not sure how it fits together outside of the plastic trim framing which can stay in place. Good thing is, it's supposed to get colder here for the next little bit so no worries about rain leaks!!!

Thanks for the quick replies.

My 2001 Screw started leaking last week...rear window. After a quick search I found a description online of how to remove the window and fix it. You have to pop off the plastic screw things in the back seat that hold the plastic on...then remove about 9 bolts, then pop out the window, remove old seal/caulk stuff...then put new stuff in...sounds simple right? It's the easiest job.

I got to the part where I saw all the bolts and all of the plastic and headliner I was going to have to remove and decided to get a price check.

For $100 I had a guy come to my place of work and fix it out in the parking lot while I kept working. I hit the offer right away. The job was EASILY worth paying someone else $100 bucks to do it.

Call around...check a few glass places on price...you should be able to get this done pretty cheap. If any of you are in Memphis let me know and I'll get you my guys number.

Blue20004x4...what they replaced on mine was the whole rear window unit..mine was tinted with a sliding glass. They did the same thing on my brother's. The sliding glass was way better than the factory and the tint on it look just like factory tint.
I had mine replaced in I think 02 or 03? My brother had his replaced in early 09..price for his was 330. of course prices went up.

Cool, I'll have to see where's it coming from. I'm gonna bet it's the frame moreso than the sealer, in either case the same thing has to be done basically. I think if it's the frame, I'll buy the window and install it myself. I like DIY projects on my truck within reason. Buddy might make me a good deal- money talks right? We'll see in the am, but thanks again for the quick replies and links with good pics 1clean42.

Yep got the same problem with my 99 f150. I got in there while it was raining and got in the back and pulled down the roof liner a bit and peaked up in there with a flashlight. It is the main seal that seals the whole back frame to the truck not the window itself. It looked like to me the seal either distorted or wasn't installed right. Either way it sucks but i think its only like 100 bucks to get fixed. For now i just park my truck under the car port when it rains. lucky me i live in the desert so rain isn't a common thing.
