2003 f150 4x4 lower ball joint

My 03 f150 4x4 super crew lower ball joint seems to be making a squeaking/groaning sound when I turn my wheels.
I've done some searching and found to replace lower and upper ball joints.
I only want to replace the lower ball joint so my question is do I have to remove the front axle from the hub assembly and the caliper or can I just pop out the ball joint with axle and calipers left in place?

Hello peter p I am having the same exact problem with mine right now the squeaking is about to drive me insane you can leave the caliper on the hub assembly, me and my neighbor did the lower left front ball joint on my truck last night and we`re gonna attempt the right one after work today it was a b**ch to get the old one off and to put the new one back in, I would not recommend trying this without taking the torsion bars out. It is not a easy proccess it took three experienced and mechanically inclined people about 4hrs to change 1 ball joint. Good Luck!

I don't think the torsion bars have to come out, although I haven't actually replaced my ball joints yet. (I got parts, I just got to find the time ...).

Try this link for description/pictures of replacing balljoints on a 4X4 ...http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/36...f-150-4x4.html
